Things are hotting up as we get closer to the start of the Rock Steady adventure.  Checked out the route and it’s a lot of Desert and Outback Australia to go through in a car that is literally a #shitbox.  Still, we can always walk home if we have to.

Check out the route here http://www.shitboxrally.com.au/route

Of course, this journey won’t be possible without the support of your donations so please give generously and help us kick cancers butt.  Our Everyday hero page is https://shitboxrally2015.everydayhero.com/au/rock-steady

Can a coffee save a mate?

Why is this important and how can a Coffee save a mate?

in an annual survey by Gilkatho of more than 1100 cafes the average price of a coffee in Australia is $3.54 for a takeaway and $3.59 to dine in. Sydneysiders pay the least for their daily roast ($3.34), while Perth has the most expensive coffee ($3.94).  Melbourne still boasts cheaper coffee than most cities, with the average cafe charging a palatable $3.43 for a takeaway.  The survey can be found here http://www.goodfood.com.au/good-food/drink/melbournes-coffee-prices-fastest-growing-in-the-country-20140424-zqytk.html

If we add up all the people that we know or who we have spoken to over a few years, we’ll find that we have hundreds of people who we have a direct connection to.  Add up all the friends of friends and we’ll have thousands of people that we can all connect to.  Within 2 degree’s of separation, there are 1000’s of people.

Paul and I want to raise $7,500 to support the Cancer Council and if 1000 people pledged the average price of a coffee of $3.59 then that would put us well on the way to meeting our target.  $3,590 can do a lot to reduce the impact of cancer on Australians.

For the average price of a coffee, you could help  save someone who already has cancer or help prevent someone from getting cancer.  Imagine that, a coffee having that much power, especially if a 1000 people give up 1 coffee for just 1 day.

Get on board, donate the price of a coffee, and save a mate.  Then tell your mates about us and get them to do the same.  Our Everyday hero site is https://shitboxrally2015.everydayhero.com/au/rock-steady and thank you for your support.

Toyota Discover Australia, why not sponsor us instead?

We at Rock Steady Crew reckon those blokes at Toyota are pretty weak.  Now, we’re not sponsored by Toyota, or any of their competitors, yet! (probably every after this post), but get this.  Toyota takes 8 brand new Toyota Landcruisers fitted for traversing this great country of ours and cracked 20,000km around Australia.  Great work, nice advertorial, and the cars did perform well, and you’d expect them to, their Toyota’s and their new.

We’re offering all of you an opportunity to live vicariously through Paul and I.  Rather than watching the advertorial, watch us as we take on the Birsdville track and outback Australia in our #ShitBox whilst raising money to support the Cancer Council.  You want to know what the countries like where we’re heading, check out where the Toyota boys and girls went:

http://discover.toyota.com.au/events/oh-what-feeling-discovery-tour-takes-famous-oodnadatta-track

Now, we’re going through the same country in a 2 wheel drive, under $1000, clapped out piece of shit car.  Albeit, we are supported by our good mates at ShitBox Rallies http://www.shitboxrally.com.au/index.php and this all goes to a good cause.

To help someone with Cancer, check out our everyday hero site is at https://shitboxrally2015.everydayhero.com/au/rock-steady  and be generous 🙂  It’s all worth it.

Stay tuned and please follow us as we start our Journey, Melbourne – Canberra – Townsville via Birdville Track in a Melbourne Taxi.

6 Degree’s of Kevin Bacon … or save a mate!

This is Kevin Bacon, who has 6 degree's?

This is Kevin Bacon, who has 6 degree’s?

OK, so after some research I’ve uncovered that there is some embellishment on the 6 degree’s of Kevin Bacon thing.  It’s really about Actors, Kevin Bacon is such a prolific actor that most actors can be linked within 6 degree’s of Kevin.  It’s a game, name a movie actor and work a link between that person and Kevin Bacon via other Movies, TV Shows etc.

A link to an article about this is here http://edition.cnn.com/2014/03/08/tech/web/kevin-bacon-six-degrees-sxsw/

Relating this back to you.  We think that there is currently a 1 degree of Cancer.  That’s right, 1 degree !!!!, at least in Australia.

Why? did you know that 1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 men will be diagnosed with Cancer before the age of 85 and that in excess of 120,000  new cases of cancer arise each year in Australia, and that excludes Melanoma, which is just as shitty.  Put this in perspective, 1 in 2 men, that is HALF of all the males you know will be diagnosed with Cancer before the age of 85.  It doesn’t have to be fatal, it can be treated, with the right research, screening programs and education of the community with the help of the Cancer Council.

Give a little, give a lot, you might save a mate.  https://shitboxrally2015.everydayhero.com/au/rock-steady

And don’t like our Facebook page, LOVE!!! it, https://www.facebook.com/Rocksteadycreworbust as we spread the Rock Steady Word.

Well we’ve done it, signed up and accepted a seat in the ShitBox Rally for 2015.  We’re going to head from Canberra to Townsville in May 2015 and our route is taking us through Outback Australia, across the Simpson Desert via the Birsdville Track and then to the coast of Far North Queensland and Townsville to cross the finish line.  It’s going to be an Adventure and it’s all to raise money for the Cancer Council of Australia so we can help with raising awareness, education and research to improve the outcomes of those with Cancer and hopefully, one day, find a cure.

If you want to know more about the Cancer Council of Australia, and the great work they are doing then check out http://www.cancer.org.au/
